A Guide To Choosing The Right Dress Shirt

Putting on a clean, tailored shirt that fits perfectly to your body frame makes you look like a boss - You get this “I’m in control” feeling wherever you go! Buying the right dress shirt isn't difficult, you just have to understand the rules and basics of getting the dress shirt that suits your frame and personality.
Well today, I'm going to give you different ways to check if your shirt’s the right fit, so you never have to wonder again. They include:

Know Your Neck Size
It is important to buy the right size of shirt and don’t strangle yourself all in the name of fit. Measure around your neck at the point where the button on your shirt collar would be and make sure you can comfortably fit one finger between the collar and your neck. If two fingers fit, the collar's too big.

Collar Type
We have different kind of collar type; straight point, button down, the spread, semi-spread, the cut-away, etc. This can be really confusing a times so it's preferable you go for the semi spread when in doubt. It is not too fashion forward, not too conservative and works with everything.

The Fittings
Although it can be a tough task buying a shirt that closely fits your torso but it's also very important you wear a fitted and firm shirt always. Either, you search for a custom made shirt or buy off the rack, always make sure it's your appropriate frame size. If you love the shirt, then go to your tailor to amend any alterations.

Get The Sleeve Right
The sleeves of your shirt should also fit right. Your sleeves should end by your thumb dimple. If you don’t understand where your dimple is, glide your finger across the side of your wrist, and feel for an indent.

Keep It Crispy
Don’t settle for limping collars, so it's preferable you buy dress shirts that use collar stays and are removable - Collar stays keeps your collar firm and well tailored. Make sure to remove them before your shirts get laundered and put them back in when the shirts return clean.

Tuck It In
Tucking-in your shirt won’t kill you, it will make only make you look better but If you plan on wearing the shirt untucked, raise your arms and make sure none of your belly is exposed.

▶ Shop Right
Different label measurements differs. For instance, TM Lewin’s slim fit is fitter when compared to some other labels. Therefore, check the shoulder seams first. They should rest at the edge of your shoulders. Not on top, and not over them and the sleeves shouldn't be too long or short.

Be Creative
Now that you understand how to get a shirt that fits you perfectly, it’s time you start getting creative with them. Go for more of classic plaid, stripe or gingham dress shirts than plain ones especially for a business-casual look. And lastly, don't be afraid to add some colour into your outfit and keep looking crisp and clean.
