Victoria Beckham's Autumn/Winter 2017 collection is about empowering women

Victoria Beckham designed her Autumn/Winter 2017 collection to empower women.

The 42-year-old fashion designer launched her iconic label in 2008 and showcased her new capsule on Sunday (12.02.17) during New York Fashion Week. She created the garments to avoid making women look "too ladylike".

Speaking to the Telegraph.co.uk about her latest designs, the brunette beauty said: "[The brogue] are intended to make you feel strong and empowered rather than too ladylike. She also talked about a modern femininity in her designs but had something of the tomboy about her. Even when a temporary power cut interrupted the preparations ahead of the show, she laughed and turned on the torch of her iPhone and carried on: “We won’t let that stop us.” She said...

The inspiration behind the creative mastermind's innovative ideas is "always fundamentally" about her own style preferences. "A reality... which is very important for me." She confessed.

And Victoria - who has sons Brooklyn, 17, Romeo, 14, Cruz, 11, and five-year-old daughter Harper with her husband David Beckham - had the full support of her entire family when she showcased her collection. David Beckham sat front row, next to Anna Wintour, with the couple's children, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper. Victoria Beckham also shared a snap of flowers the family had sent her before her show.

Highlights on the catwalk included a pair of high-waisted gabardine pants which were worn with a knitted bustier, which Beckham stated was “exactly what she wanted to wear on the red carpet now”. They were downplayed and chic rather than showy and unrealistic. The collection also included ribbed knitwear, trousers which puddled at the hem and bra-cupped jumpers. Best were the coats: a hefty navy coat with fringed hem worn giant-sized and clasped shut by the model’s hand – the details made the collection a huge standout.
