Picking the right color for your hair

Alright guyz, this is some serious ish right here we need to discuss; I mean our hair is our crown and should be treated with care and respect right? So what excuse do you have for looking like mother gagu in that color of hair.

I see girls go around with different shades of weave, fixing or dye all in the name of wanting to experiment or try out something new and when they begin to get the looks they will think and feel like "oh my! This hair fit me sha" It's a lie oh, it doesn't! In most cases, people are wondering if you lost your mirror or you don't have friends or maybe perhaps you offended your hairstylist. At least that's the first ting that comes to my mind.

Well if you must know there are colors that suit your skin tone and the ones that don't, so don't use corn blonde because Nicki is using it, it suits her and also goes with her skin tone. Search for colors that compliment and warm your skin tone then go with it.

Trying to decide what hair color to pick when you decide to dye your hair or add color extensions can be very tricky. Picking the wrong color can instantaneously transform you from looking fabulous to disastrous. I get the fact that most of us just want to step out of our comfort zone and spice things up a little, but most times it all goes wrong.

We tend to out do ourselves and step way out of that comfort zone by going too far and end up looking shabby. But this doesnt have to be the case. Which makes the big question – how do you know what color is right for you? If you’d like to know the answer, keep reading:

Understanding Your Skin Tone

Before taking your pick of hair colours, you need to ID your skin's undertones. Most people fall into one of three categories: warm, cool, and neutral. Figuring out where your complexion lies can seem confusing, but there are a few tricks:

  • To check if your skin tone tends toward being warm or cold, check your wrist in normal sunlight:
  • If the veins in your wrists look green, then you are warm-toned. Select your shades of hair depending on the color of your skin. For example, colors like honey blonde and rose gold will suit you. For darker skins, opt for darker browns like chocolate.
  • If the veins in your wrists look blue, you are cool-toned. Cool tones like ash blonde, platinum, white blonde, and ash brown are ideal for cool skin tones. But you can also pull off softer warm tones like golden blonde and light chestnut brown.
  • If you cannot tell whether they are blue or green, you may have a neutral skin tone, giving you an olive complexion. Warm dark blonde shades, dark browns, and light browns look amazing on an olive skin tone. Ash colors also look good on olive skin because it’s a neutral skin tone.
  • If you have yellowish undertones in your skin, then hair color that has warm overtones will look good on you. Copper blond color is one such color.
  • If your skin has pinkish undertones, you are cool toned and cool colors like ash blonde will look good on you.
  • Most times blonde, gold, wine, red and brown works best with light skin individuals while wine, brown works best with dark and chocolate skin.
  • Avoid hair that is too dark on fair skin. Having subtle highlights will do a great deal to improve your look. Shades of blonde, red, and light brown or chocolate will work best with this skin tone.

Another basic step to avoiding hair color disaster is simple, the first thing to do when making this change is to listen to your hairstylist; the ones that aren't bold enough tell you this essentials stylishly. Listen to them cause they are the expert here and you will most definitely come out smashing.

Word to the wise: Though donning on different hair colors may seem like the trend to follow, remember that the color you choose is what will define your look for the next 1 month or so. So, make an informed decision to avoid committing a major faux pas.
